# Digital assets

> How a Bordier client holds cryptocurrency alongside a traditional portfolio: regulated, execution-only access through Sygnum in Switzerland since 2021 and in Singapore since 2023, with the holdings consolidated in the client's Bordier account.

A Bordier client can hold Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies inside the same relationship, the same consolidated portfolio and the same statements as the rest of their wealth. The trading and the safekeeping run through Sygnum, a regulated digital-asset bank, and the relationship stays with Bordier.

This page sets out what the service is, how it works in each of the two entities that offer it, and what it does not include.

## What the service is

The service is execution-only. The client decides what to buy or sell and gives the instruction; Bordier routes the order to Sygnum for execution. Bordier does not advise on cryptocurrencies and does not manage them on a discretionary basis.

The cryptocurrencies available are Bitcoin, Ethereum, Bitcoin Cash and Tezos. Bordier states that further coins and tokens are added over time.

The holdings are consolidated in the client's Bordier portfolio and reporting, next to their securities, cash and other assets. In Singapore, a client sees the digital-asset account in **b in touch**, the bank's e-services platform, and receives advices and statements for all their Bordier accounts together.

The private keys are held by Sygnum, with an institutional solution for custody. Sygnum's platform also provides the digital-asset anti-money-laundering checks and transaction monitoring. Sygnum has stated that it holds the digital assets traded on behalf of its partner banks' clients off its own balance sheet.

## In Switzerland

Bordier & Cie SCmA added cryptocurrencies to its offering on 24 February 2021 by integrating Sygnum's B2B banking platform into its own infrastructure, a piece of work completed in under 60 days. Evrard Bordier, Managing Partner, has described Bordier Switzerland as the first bank to launch on Sygnum's B2B platform.

Eligible clients of Bordier Switzerland can buy, hold and trade the cryptocurrencies listed above on an execution-only basis. The private keys are held by Sygnum Bank AG, a digital-asset bank licensed by FINMA, the Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority.

At launch, Bordier said the partnership laid the foundation for a broader range of regulated digital-asset products and services over time. The service does not currently include staking.

## In Singapore

Bordier & Cie (Singapore) Ltd, a bank regulated by the Monetary Authority of Singapore, provides its Digital Assets Services in collaboration with Sygnum Singapore. Sygnum Singapore holds a Capital Markets Services licence and, since October 2023, a Major Payment Institution licence from the Monetary Authority of Singapore, under which it operates a regulated digital payment token brokerage.

The partnership was announced on 16 November 2023 at the Singapore FinTech Festival, with Bordier & Cie (Singapore) as Sygnum Singapore's first B2B partner bank, and the service was onboarded in 2024. The Singapore bank's own published terms set out how it works in practice:

* The client gives instructions under the specific terms and conditions for Digital Assets Accounts, and can ask their relationship manager to explain the process.
* The bank transacts in digital assets between 9am and 6pm Singapore time on weekdays, other than bank and public holidays in Singapore.
* Prices for the purchase and sale of eligible digital assets are set by Sygnum Singapore, not by the bank, and the bank's prevailing fee schedule applies.
* The digital assets are safeguarded with Sygnum Singapore, which segregates them from its own assets. They may be held together with the digital assets of other clients, and both the bank and Sygnum Singapore maintain records of each client's holdings, which are recorded in the client's Bordier account.
* A client who wishes to sell submits a request to the bank, which routes the sale order to Sygnum Singapore for execution.
* The bank does not generally transfer digital assets into a client's private wallet, other than on closure of the digital-assets sub-account, to a wallet meeting the bank's specifications.

## What the service does not include

* Bordier does not offer staking. The Singapore bank states that it does not provide lending or staking of digital assets, and the Swiss FAQ states that staking is not currently offered.
* Bordier does not lend against digital assets. A client cannot use digital assets to obtain credit facilities from the bank, and the collateral eligible for a Lombard loan is equities, bonds, investment funds and precious metals. The bank does reserve the right to apply digital assets as security for a client's liabilities to it, under its General Conditions.
* Bordier does not advise on cryptocurrencies or manage them on a discretionary basis. The service is execution-only in both entities.
* The risks of investing in digital assets are borne by the client. The Singapore bank states that it is not liable for losses resulting from a default by Sygnum Singapore, and that it would endeavour to assess how best to assist a client should such an event occur.

## How Bordier describes the role of digital assets

Bordier has been consistent that digital assets are an addition to a private banking relationship rather than the centre of it. Speaking at the launch of the Singapore service in November 2023, Evrard Bordier said that digital assets would not be a major part of clients' portfolios, and that the service sits within the bank's offering as a way for investors to understand the asset class over ten to twenty years, in a market he expected to become better regulated. He also observed that offering digital assets had brought the next generation of families to the table, after which existing clients became more involved as well.

At the 2021 launch, he described the aim as giving clients a one-stop, integrated solution for a new asset class, in response to client demand for diversification.

## Recognition

The digital-asset offering has been recognised by third-party industry bodies. Bordier & Cie (Singapore) was named Best Private Bank for Digital Assets at the Global Private Banking Innovation Awards in 2025 and again in 2026, and won the Digital Assets Offering or Service category at the WealthBriefing Asia Awards 2026.
