# Alternative investments

> What alternatives mean at Bordier: private equity through the PE Club, digital assets.

## Private equity

Access runs through the **Bordier PE Club**, whose four principles, access, advice, alignment and accompaniment, are set out on [Investment solutions](/solutions/investment-solutions).

The structural case Bordier makes for the asset class is about the universe, not the returns. The vast majority of companies are not listed, companies stay in private hands longer, and the number of listed companies in the United States and Europe is falling. Investment theses centre on operational improvements, supported by in-depth due diligence, and interests are aligned through the fund manager's own capital commitment and carry.

Six sub-classes are used, ordered from lower to higher on both risk and return.

Target geographies are Europe, North America and Asia Pacific, and diversification is deliberate across sub-class, geography, vintage year and manager. Capital is called over years rather than invested at once, which is why cash-flow planning forms part of the service.

## Digital assets

Bordier offers clients regulated, execution-only access to cryptocurrencies, held within the same relationship and the same consolidated reporting as the rest of the portfolio. In Switzerland the service has run since February 2021 through Sygnum Bank AG, a digital-asset bank licensed by FINMA, which holds the private keys under an institutional custody solution. In Singapore, Bordier & Cie (Singapore) Ltd, a bank regulated by the Monetary Authority of Singapore, provides its Digital Assets Services in collaboration with Sygnum Singapore. Bordier describes digital assets as an addition to a portfolio rather than a major part of it. The service is set out in full on [Digital assets](/solutions/digital-assets), with the Singapore detail on [Bordier in Singapore](/facts/singapore).
